ABOUT FINIMA
THE ROLE OF FINIMA LEADERSHIP IN THE ADVENT OF THE EARLY CHRISTIAN MISSIONARY IN NIGERIA
According to G.I. Jones, The advent of the early Christian missionary in Nigeria met the reign of Chief Omoni Jack Brown whose dominance and distinct control of Finima and its surbubs was very conspicuous and thus was generally referred to as the Governor of Finima.
It is remarkable to note that Finima, amidst its heavily weighted and acclaimed deity and rituals at that time; yet was able to provide an asylum to protect the early Christian missionaries of the Niger Delta against persecution.
Interestingly, Chief Omoni Jack Brown, provided a sanctuary for King William Dappa Pepple in Finima, against the resistance of the Chiefs in Bonny, when the King returned from exile in 1861 from Great Britain with the gospel.
This divine intervention provided an open door for the word of God to diffuse into nooks and crannies of Kingdoms in the nation of Nigeria. Therefore, as a community and people that are now enlightened in respect of our present level of development; the conduct of our affairs in the leadership of the Buoye Omuso Brown Group of Houses; is leaned on the Almightiness of the God of heaven and earth.
