ITV This Morning star cuts short maternity leave for ‘breaking news’ announcement

ITV This Morning star cuts short maternity leave for ‘breaking news’ announcement

Breaking news Finima

One of This Morning’s stars made an unexpected return from maternity leave to cover a significant “breaking news” story on the ITV daytime programme.

Sian Welby, who had only given birth to her daughter Ruby at the end of June 2024, was back on air via video-link on Thursday (August 15) to discuss the major announcement that Love Island celebrity Molly-Mae Hague has parted ways with her fiance Tommy Fury.

The couple, who have been an item for five years and were seen as a showbiz power duo after the birth of their daughter Bambi, have now ended their relationship, sharing the news through their social media accounts.

This Morning drew parallels between the split and “this generation’s Charles and Diana”, as Sian joined in with her baby just off-camera to talk about the topic, evidently thrilled to be returning to work after several months.

Josie said: “We’ve brought Sian in to go through this,” reports the Manchester Evening News.

Rylan added: “She’s broken her maternity leave for this breaking story! Sian, first things first, lovely to see you and how’s everything going?” Sian responded: “Aww, great to see you all. Everything’s so far so good, baby Ruby is sleeping as we sleep so we can get through the segment!”

Sian had initially shared her pregnancy news in February, joking with her followers: “Being serious guys, I’ve got a bit of an announcement for you… I’m pregnant. The stress I’ve gone through trying to pretend to be drinking!”

Sian appeared delighted to return to the screen as she read out Molly-Mae’s heartfelt statement: “Never in a million years did I think I’d ever have to write this. After five years of being together, I never imagined our story would end, especially not in this way.

Sian was back on our screens this week

“I am extremely upset to announce that mine and Tommy’s relationship has come to an end. I will forever be grateful for the most important thing to me now and always, my beautiful daughter. Without us there would be no her, she will always be my priority.”

She continued: “I want to thank you all for the love you have shown us over the last five years. You have all been a part of our journey and I feel it’s right to share this with you all.

“While I try to get through the upcoming days and weeks, please respect my need for privacy during this challenging period, I’ll return when the time feels right.”
